Shopping for Mid-Century Treasures at Racquet Club Center

Mad for everything mid-century? Shop where the designers do, at the funky collection of vintage shops at Racquet Club Center! Not too far from Descanso Resort, this unassuming little strip mall has become Palm Springs’ newest designer destination for mid-mod furniture and home décor. Here’s what you’ll find.

Re[x]
This 11,000-square-foot design emporium is definitely the jewel of the plaza and was recently featured on Trixie Mattel’s hotel renovation reality show, Trixie Motel. You never know what you’ll find at Re[x], but we can tell you from experience it’s hard to leave empty-handed! The shop is packed with great MCM furniture from brands like Glenn of California, Haywood Wakefield, and Herman Miller, lots of local consignment items, tons of playful home décor and collectibles, and a great selection of coffee table books from Phaidon and Taschen Art. Unlike most other shops at Racquet Club Center, Re[x] is open seven days a week.

ModernWay
Looking for the perfect mid-century memento to take home from Palm Springs? ModernWay is the place to look. Specializing in the 1950s-70s, the shop features a fabulous inventory of MCM furnishings, art and décor objects, lighting, and more, always in incredible condition. Audiophiles head to the Listening Room to peruse the rare vintage hi-fi and stereo offerings.

Ventura
Ventura showcases items from the turn of the century to the present including mid-century modern, art nouveau, folk art, arts & crafts, Bauhaus, art deco, and other one off objects. Ventura frequently has a great selection of period art pieces, like ceramics and canvas works.

Palm Springs Art + Design Gallery
This higher-end collector’s shop combines a beautiful art gallery, a furniture showroom, and an online store. If you’re looking for a very special period piece or one-of-a-kind object and budget isn’t much of a consideration, you may find what you’re looking for here.

Boomerang
The curated selection of modern furniture and collectibles at Boomerang leans into recognizable mid-century classics and well-known American, Danish, and Scandinavian designers. You’ll find lots of top-quality vintage furniture picked from local estates, plus a selection of original designs from Herman Miller and Cherner that are still in production today. The Danish mobiles from Ole Flensted come nicely boxed and make great souvenirs or gifts.

The shops at Racquet Club Center are an easy 5-minute drive or 10-minute bike ride from Descanso Resort. And if all that shopping makes you thirsty, Boozehounds is a great place to stop for a margarita on your way home. Keep in mind that most shops are closed Tuesday-Wednesday. Happy hunting!
