FAVORITE RESTAURANTS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE

1501 Gastro Pub

Surrounded by lush gardens inside the private poolside courtyard at Descanso Resort, it’s easy to forget that our location in the Uptown District is within walking distance of some of Palm Spring’s best restaurants and shops. There are so many great restaurants to choose from, we asked our hospitality team to share a few favorites.

Lost Property

Located just steps away, this new daytime cafe & evening cocktail spot inside the Skylark Hotel is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Crave-worthy plates like hearty baked eggs in heirloom tomato sauce, brioche french toast, and a superb fried chicken sandwich are available until 2pm. Not to mention excellent coffee and a killer Bloody Mary. In the evening, Lost Property opens back up for handcrafted cocktails, bar bites, and a limited dinner menu. The vibe is casual and fun. To enter, walk around the building to the entrance on Palm Canyon Drive. Open daily.

1501 Uptown Gastropub

A little further up Palm Canyon you'll find 1501. The casual dining room is open and airy, there’s an awesome wrap-around patio, and the menu highlights comfort foods prepared in style with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Reservations are recommended, but if you’re happy to sit at the bar or a high top, not necessarily needed. Gluten free and vegan options. Nice weekend brunch menu. Open daily until 9pm, Fridays & Saturdays until 10pm.

Sandfish Sushi & Whiskey

Palm Spring’s buzziest sushi spot is about a 5-minute walk from Descanso. Everything is super fresh, beautifully plated, and very good. If you’re looking for a special experience, the omakase chef’s tasting menu is a real treat. Sandfish is a smaller place with an award-winning sushi chef, so reservations are highly recommended. Sit indoors in the sleek dining room, or outside on the groovy patio in covered sitting ‘nooks’ made from converted shipping containers. Open daily until 10pm, Fridays & Saturdays until 11pm.

The Heyday

If you're in the mood for a great smash burger, look no further. Recently recommended by the LA Times, The Heyday also serves up loaded fries, an impressive house salad, and both vegan and vegetarian burger options. Open daily until 9pm, Fridays & Saturdays until 10pm. Less than 10-minutes by foot up Palm Canyon.

Billy Reed’s

Ready for a retro throwback? Head to Billy Reed’s for generous servings of simple homemade comfort food like chicken pot pie, prime rib with all the fixins, or all-day breakfast. From the cozy red booths to the velvet-flocked wallpaper, Billy Reed’s is a true slice of Palm Springs history. And speaking of a slice, make sure you save room for some homemade pie for dessert! About a 10-minute walk up Palm Canyon, open daily from 8am to 9pm.

Boozehounds

Boozehounds is a fun spot where both humans and their furry friends are welcome on the shady outdoor patio. Inside the festive dining room, the Asian-influenced menu features dishes like miso marinated sea bass fish & chips, fresh crudo, grilled brussels sprouts, and garlic noodles. Boozehounds makes great craft cocktails (including one of our favorite margaritas) and is a solid choice for happy hour bites or group dining. Open daily, serving Lunch, Brunch, Happy Hour, or Dinner depending on the day. Gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options. About a 15-minute walk up Palm Canyon.

El Mirasol at Los Arboles

Heading towards downtown, El Mirasol at Los Arboles serves up authentic Mexican food and delicious margaritas in a pretty courtyard ringed by fruit trees. This family-run hidden gem is a favorite for locals and visitors who are in the know. You’ll definitely need reservations here, which are only made by calling or emailing in advance. Located just off Indian Canyon Drive inside the Los Arboles Hotel, El Mirasol is a 15-minute walk away. Closed for renovation Summer 2025.

Ice Cream & Shop(pe)

Shop(pe) scoops up unique ice cream flavors like Lavender, Avocado, and Pomegranate Chip. Nothing is basic here and everything is yummy (including the vegan options and sorbets). Seating is available inside, or grab a spot on the patio and watch the world go by. Open Friday-Saturday until midnight, and Sunday-Thursday until 10pm. About 5-minutes by foot, inside Arrive Hotel on Palm Canyon.

A Little Further Afield...

The Uptown Design District is a great area to explore with lots of hip boutiques and some of Palm Spring’s top dining spots. Some of our favorites here include Jake’s, Trio, Workshop Kitchen + Bar, and Birba.
